Xabi Alonso could return to the centre of the Liverpool midfield for this weekend's Premiership trip to Wigan.
The Spanish midfielder has missed the last two games after picking up an injury during the Reds' Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven last week. With central midfield options limited because of long term injuries to Momo Sissoko and Bolo Zenden, Benitez will be keen to welcome back Alonso for the trip to the JJB Stadium. "Maybe Xabi will be available but also we have to check if we have any new injuries today," he said.
