![]() | Paul Eaton 25 January 2007 Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt believes Liverpool can build on their impressive victory over Chelsea at the weekend and make an impression at the top of the table between now and the end of the season. |
Kuyt opened the scoring at the weekend as Liverpool extended their recent Premiership record to eight wins in nine games with a well deserved win against the Champions. With Manchester United and Arsenal still due to visit Anfield over the coming weeks, the 26 year old is hoping there's still time for the Reds to get involved in the battle at the top. “It was important that we got a victory on Saturday after what happened against Arsenal in the cup games at Anfield, but it was also important because the win came against Chelsea,” he said. “We’re only five points behind them now and, with 14 games to play, there is still a long way to go. “We’ve shown recently that we can win away games, and on Saturday we have shown that we can win big games. “We have a lot of confidence now and we need to keep going on. We are on a great run in the Premiership with a lot of clean sheets, and the only game we’ve lost over the past couple of months was at Blackburn. “We still have to play against Manchester United and Arsenal here, and we feel as though we want to show what we can do against them.” |
