Steven Gerrard was full of praise for his Liverpool team-mates after they battled to a hard earned 1-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield.
Gerrard's second half strike sealed the victory against a City side who looked capable of taking a point back to Manchester. The Liverpool skipper admits it was a tough match but is relieved to have another three points on the board ahead of Portsmouth's visit on Wednesday. "It was a difficult game against a physical side," he said. "I thought Man City defended really well and didn't give much away. We had a difficult game in midweek and Man City have had a week's rest, so a big three points today and the most important thing was the win rather than the performance. "We managed to get the breakthrough with my goal and we went on and claimed the three points. It was a good team performance today. "I am more pleased with the three points than my goal because we have another home game on Wednesday and if we can do that against Portsmouth we can perhaps find ourselves in a better position in the league." He added: "I have been working hard in training and I can feel the form slowly coming back. "I know I can play better and if I find that level of form I know the goals will come."
